Mayo's Mweelrea mountain has been selected as one of 10 Irish mountain locations to feature in the 2013 Sunrise Summit Challenge, taking place on April 14. Hikers, adventurers and families of all levels of experience are invited to take part in the Irish Red Cross charity event in which they will hike through the early morning darkness, reaching the mountain summit in time to watch the sunrise over Connacht.

This idea centred primarily around creating awareness and raising vital funds for children with autism in Ireland by means of the Croagh Patrick Seven Day in a Row Challenge.
